Kleen: Premier food, drink safe at least until 2022

The province is stepping up its efforts to combat the threat of coronavirus, and a new report has highlighted some key measures that the government has been taking to keep consumers safe.

In a report released Wednesday, the Alberta government is calling on the federal government to establish a National Beverage Code, which would create a new national standard for what is considered a safe drink.

“Our message is: We don’t want to lose a generation to the scourge of coronas or to a global pandemic,” Premier Rachel Notley said in a statement.

“We’re trying to build a country that works for everyone and that protects and protects our kids, and we’ve seen a lot of progress on that front.”

Notley said the government is working with stakeholders in the food industry to ensure that food safety standards are consistent with the new code.

“The federal government has shown itself to be more than a partner, it’s shown itself as a great example of innovation and we want to continue to show that to the federal and provincial governments that we’ve worked with,” she said.

In an interview with CBC News on Thursday, Notley emphasized the importance of maintaining an open, inclusive dialogue with the federal, provincial and municipal governments.

“I think the key to our success is that we don’t take ourselves too seriously.

We take ourselves seriously and we are willing to work together,” she told CBC News.

In the first five months of this year, Alberta saw more than 1,300 coronaviruses, compared to just 905 in all of 2017, according to Statistics Canada data.

While Notley did not directly address the federal governments role in the new government’s initiatives, she said the province has taken action to ensure consumers are protected.

“It’s important that we stay focused on our own challenges and work to get through them,” she noted.

While there is still work to be done, Noty said she sees the federal focus on combating the pandemic as an important step.

“This is really a challenge that we have to face together as a country, not just as Alberta.

We have to take care of our own kids,” she added.
