NHL suspends rookie players for six games over safety violations

NEW YORK — The NHL has suspended the participation of six rookie players who violated its rules after a pair of incidents.

The suspensions, which begin Friday, are effective immediately.

They include:Players who were part of the team that won the Stanley Cup last season: Jonathan Drouin, Kyle Quincey, Travis Konecny, Brendan Smith, Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Nicklas Backstrom.
