Police say a man shot and killed during an attempted robbery Sunday in northwest Washington has been identified as 26-year-old Michael Rizzuto.

The Washington Post reports Rizzito was shot and pronounced dead at the scene.

Rizzato was known to the police department, the police chief said.

He was being held on a $500,000 bail.

The shooting occurred in the 200 block of E. 14th Street NW about 2:45 a.m. local time, according to the Washington Post.

Police said Rizzatto was armed with a gun and was on the ground when he was shot.

The suspect was taken into custody and taken to a hospital.

He is being held without bond.

Police have not said if the suspect had an attorney.

Rizzatto, of Arlington, Va., was an Army veteran and had worked for the Department of Homeland Security, the Washington Times reported.
