The next generation of safety gear is coming, and it’s here in the form of safety connectors.
And if you have a child, you’re going to want one.
Toyota announced a $200 million partnership with the Safety Connector Corporation (SCNC), a company that builds safety connectors for vehicles.
The company is a division of the Toyota Group, the parent company of General Motors, and Toyota sells vehicles and other products in the US and abroad.
The new Toyota safety connector will be available in the 2018 Toyota Prius Hybrid, the 2017 Prius Prime, the 2018 Lexus RX 200h, and the 2018 Scion xB.
Toyota says the new safety connector is built to help protect children and their parents, and is meant to be used as a first-responder.
The safety connector, which is made of a polyethylene and polyurethane polymer, is designed to protect the vehicle’s interior and exterior with a plastic-and-aluminum mesh that attaches to the front bumper.
This plastic mesh is also used to protect doors and windows.
The SCNC is currently in the prototype phase, but it’s likely to be ready for production sometime in 2019, Toyota said.
In an interview with Consumer Reports, SCNC founder and CEO David Kastelnik said he thinks the safety connector could be useful for parents and other caregivers.
“Parents need to take the time to understand what’s going on in the car, and also understand that when the car breaks down, it’s a really bad idea to leave it alone,” he said.
“So the safety connectors are designed to help parents and caregivers understand what the car’s going through.”
It’s the latest in a series of safety upgrades being rolled out in the Toyota vehicle line, which started with the 2016 Camry and went on to include the 2018 Camry Hybrid and the 2019 Lexus LS.
The 2017 Prio will get the new Toyota Safety Connectors.
Toyotas parent company, General Motors (GM), says that its new safety connectors will help protect consumers, families, and employees.
“Our goal is to help our customers save money and reduce their stress by creating a safer and more enjoyable experience for all,” GM said in a statement.
The Safety Connects will also be available for the Toyota Highlander Hybrid, which debuted in the United States in 2017 and is now available worldwide.
It’s the car the Toyota brand is most known for, and has a reputation for being difficult to drive.
Toyota said it’s working on ways to make the Highlander more user-friendly and easier to drive, but did not say what those improvements would look like.
